NAVIGATION SKILLS COURSES WITH CHMAS

CHMAS offer several navigation skills courses for you to choose from. All of these will help you to get to grips with the fundamental map and compass skills to give you the confidence to get out and explore under your own steam. We’ve helped many people over the years from beginners to advanced navigators so we are sure we can provide you with lots of handy hints and tips to hone your skills.

Fundamentals of Navigation

Perhaps you’ve been hill walking for a while but would like to feel more confident in your navigation, especially in mist or low cloud. On this course, our instructors will show you how to navigate off the beaten path, increasing your route options and ability to stay located. This course is designed to explain the basic principles without confusing jargon, whilst taking in some scenery at the same time!

Venues

For these courses we use own local Shropshire Hills, although we can travel further away if needed.

Equipment

Equipment You will need to provide your own personal walking kit but we will supply all safety equipment, maps and compass if required. A suggested kit list can be obtained from our ‘downloads page’.

National Navigation Award Scheme

Walking in the mountain environment or through open country is simply magical and that’s enough for some people. Others may prefer to have a bench mark standard to compare themselves with. If that’s you then the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) could be just what you are looking. There are three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold and we can currently offer Bronze / Silver training and assessment courses.

Venues

For these courses we use venues in North Wales (Llangollen & Bala) and our own local Shropshire Hills.

Mountain Training – Hill Skills
