CLIMBING / ABSEILING

If you have passed any rock face or cliff in the UK then you will undoubtedly seen people climbing it, some with ease and others with much more effort. Chris Hughes Multi Activity Services (CHMAS) is pleased to offer a range of climbing activities to get you climbing under your own steam so that you too can climb with ease up the steep rock. We can't promise to make you an expert but you will go away with new skills and increased confidence in your ability.

Climber

TASTER SESSIONS

CHMAS half day climbing taster sessions are ideal for small groups and families to sample the delights of climbing/abseiling in a relaxed and informal manner. The emphasis is on fun and team working so it is also a great way for folk to get to know one another a little better. Be warned though this activity usually can leave you longing for more.

For these courses we use venues in Shropshire and Llangollen.

Equipment

We supply all climbing & safety equipment all you have to do is turn up and have fun. A suggested kit list is available from our 'downloads page'.

INTRODUCTION TO CLIMBING

If you are new to climber or have done some in the past then a CHMAS introduction to climbing course could be just the thing to give you the confidence to climb under your own steam. Under the supervision of our experienced instructors you will learn about movement skills, how to belay, set up climbs and experience the thrill of abseiling.

For these courses we use venues in Shropshire, Llangollen and Bettws Y Coed.

Equipment

We supply all climbing and safety equipment although if you have your own equipment (except ropes) then please bring it along with you so that we can give you hints and tips on how best to use it. A suggested kit list can be obtained from our 'downloads page'.

Available all year round as a private booking or you can join one of our open courses as listed below.

Tariff

Our open courses cost £80 per person to join or you can arrange your own course at dates to suit you, in which our Private Guiding tariff will apply.

TOUCHING STONE WEEKEND

Many people's first climbing experience is on an indoor climbing wall where there are coloured holds and ropes already in place. Venturing outdoors can therefore be a daunting experience and a CHMAS touching stone weekends are designed to equip the indoor climber with the skills to climb outdoors. With our experienced instructors you can easily make this transition and climb outdoors confidently.

NATIONAL INDOOR CLIMBING AWARD SCHEME (NICAS)

CHMAS is pleased to offer training and assessment for the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) through established links with Arthog Outreach, which is an approved awarding centre. Through this link we are pleased to offer the following:

  • Level 1 - Foundation Climber at Arthog Outreach;
  • Level 2 - Top Rope Climber at Arthog Outreach.

Although Chris has been inducted to run these courses, your final pass certificate will be signed by the Course Director at Arthog Outreach to verify the outcome.

Generally, instruction for the activities will be undertaken by Chris but we do sometimes use other instructors who are well known to us, have a passion for the outdoors and who hold the appropriate National Governing Body Award.
